Bà Mount is not a well-known place, however, people who know this place rate it as a sleeping beauty in a forest covered by the cloud. Located closely to Nha Trang where has warm and moist weather, Bà Mount, however, always has cool breeze, that is why it is so called “ Đà Lạt of a beach city”.
Bà Mount is thirty kilometers away as the crow flies from Nha Trang, to the South, but the tourists must ride about sixty to seventy kilometers, including forty kilometers on the mountain. After about two hours from Nha Trang, temporarily saying goodbye to blue ocean and white sand, the tourists might have chance to experience another feeling in a totally different atmostphere of a foggy forest. In the color of trees, the house of stilts made from bamboo pole here is the gardish of this place. After twelve kilometers, the degree starts to going down and you can feel beautiful breeze. At the end of the road, if you want to come to the top of mountain, it would take you an hour of walking on the path and dangerous slope.
The forest here is moist all the time. It is interesting that around midnight; fog goes down, leaving the top of the mountain an open space. Visitors often get up early to admire the sunrise and at the time of the sky at the moment between night and day. Many people wear a sweater or blanket, stepped outside, where is between earth and heaven sky in the bitter cold. Visitors can feel like you are standing on the clouds, floating, floating. Sunrise view from the top of Hon Ba just a red gradiant in the East. Until 8 am, still does not have any sunray on the top of mountain. But light is still enough for tourists to see clearly clouds appears after the long mountain ranges from the distance.
Hon Ba is the eastern part of the Trường Sơn range, linking the highlands Lam Dong, so temperate climate is somewhat different from Dalat and Nha Trang. Ecosystem here is extremely diversed, with many species of plants and specific animals . Scientists have recorded the existence of 100 species of rare plants listed in the Red Book
Bà Mount was planning a nature reservation area of about 20,000 hecta. About half of the area is strictly protected.
From about 1915, French doctor Alexandre Yersin came here to build up camp, plant native and foreign species. He built a wooden stilt houses and reclaimed the land for cultivation of the plants including a plant used to fight against malaria. Then, this medicinal plant is transferred to Lam Dong. Currently, visitors still can see medicinal plants and forest trees remain unchanged, becoming an interesting natural point. At this time, this floor house has deteriorated, so local authorities decided to reconstruct based on the prototype right on old ground. When tourism development, we build a long house as Tây Nguyên People’s design for tourists’s staying. The house is a memorized place, showing many photos and artifacts related to Alexandre Yersin. Around the floor are still many traces of him. On the left the house, there is still an ancient tea trees planted by Doctor Yersin. Special guests come here often drink tea, fresh tea leaves are cooked from this plant. The tea has green color of leaves and makes your sense awaked.
In the future, this place will become an interesting ecosystem tourism place.
